Starting Out: Introducing Our Pasture-Raised Laying Hens

We’re so excited to share the beginning of a new chapter here on the farm — the arrival of our very first flock of laying hens! At the beginning of May, I got the long-awaited text: our girls were ready for pickup. After all the planning, building, and dreaming, it finally felt real. We brought them home that very week, and they’ve spent the past month settling into their new pasture, getting comfortable, and exploring every inch of their space. And the best part? They’ve already started laying! It’s been such a joy to collect my very first dozen farm-fresh eggs.

Since we’ve never owned chickens before, we decided to start small with just six hens — a manageable number to help us learn the ropes and ensure we can give them the best care possible. This initial flock is our trial run, but we’re already dreaming bigger. We hope to expand soon to provide more pasture-raised eggs for our community. It's just the beginning, and we’re so excited for what’s to come!

Our hens are raised on pasture, where they can scratch, peck, dust bathe, and roam in the sunshine. We believe animals should be raised with respect and care — not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it produces healthier, better-tasting eggs.
Pasture-raising means:
Fresh air and freedom for the hens every day
A varied, natural diet supplemented with feed
Happier, healthier birds that can live as nature intended
We're committed to transparency and sustainability at every step. From the way we manage the pasture to the design of our mobile coop, every detail is guided by our core values: animal welfare, land stewardship, and food quality. There’s something incredibly special about harvesting food you’ve raised yourself — it’s deeply satisfying in a way that’s hard to put into words. The eggs taste cleaner, richer, and more vibrant than anything from the store, with beautiful dark yellow yolks that are a testament to their pasture-raised diet. We’ve already had a few surprise double-yolkers, which felt like little good luck charms — and even one absolutely massive egg that left me completely shocked. I still can’t believe one of our hens laid it!
This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to bring you along for the ride. Whether you’re here to learn, connect, or just enjoy a glimpse of farm life, we’re glad you’re with us. We’ll be sharing more stories, photos, and moments from the pasture as our flock settles in and becomes part of the rhythm of the farm.
